Advice and information for patients and families who had contact with Zholia Alemi

The safety of our patients is our utmost priority and we are disappointed to find that Zholia Alemi, who worked as a locum consultant at LPT between 2009-2010, entered the General Medical Council register using a fraudulent qualification 23 years ago. Zholia worked across various NHS Trusts in the UK during this time. The GMC are now investigating how this could have happened and have since put in place more rigorous processes to ensure doctors are fit to work in the UK.

In light of the information we discovered this week (19 November), we are now conducting an urgent review into this matter and have agreed an immediate plan to respond to people who contact us as previous patients of Ms Alemi, whilst we try to identify which patients she may have treated when working at LPT. As you can imagine this may take some time to work through but the safety of our patients is paramount.

The Trust is working with local partners to ensure that we continue to provide full support to any affected patients. It is important that any concerned patients are able to discuss this with us.

If you are a worried patient or carer you can speak to our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0116 295 0830.

Patients can also contact the GMC via their helpline on 0161 923 6602. The GMC have also provided support and advice for patients on their website:—-information-for-patients
