Valued Star Awards

Introduction

Our staff are our greatest asset, displaying hard work, commitment and passion on a daily basis. We want to create a culture where there are lots of opportunities to say “thank you” and an organisation that our staff are proud to be a part of.

What is Valued Star?

This monthly award is about recognising members of staff who have gone the extra mile in the way they demonstrate any or all of our Trust’s values of integrity, trust, compassion and respect. These run throughout Our Pledge, which we have signed up as staff, managers and as an organisation.

March's Winner

March’s Valued Star is Helen Briggs, deputy sister on East Ward at Hinckley and Bosworth Community Hospital. This is what happened when she received a surprise visit from chief executive Dr Peter Miller.

Helen was nominated by a colleague in recognition of how she went above and beyond in ensuring our Trust values are embedded in the day to day running of East Ward.

Presenting Helen with her signed Valued Star certificate and badge, Pete said: “Thank you from all the patients here and thank you from all the staff for everything you do.”

Nominating Helen, Karen Smith said: "Helen has stepped up to acting ward manager whilst our manager has been off on sick leave."

"Helen has creating an environment that has helped all staff to grow and achieve better patient care and greater satisfaction in everyone's job role. It is very apparent that Helen cares deeply for the patient experience on our ward and also fosters and values the staff and their ideas to the point where the staff have a renewed vigour for their work life."

"Helen is very approachable and has gained increased results across the board in all areas of ward management and the staff are actually proud of these results as much as Helen is. Helen has focus and drive and wants to make changes for the better than can only benefit the trust, patients, relatives and staff."

"Helen has true compassion for nursing and gaining optimum outcomes for the patient and I feel Helen deserves to be seen as a Valued Star by the Trust as she is our Valued Star on East Ward."

Helen said: “Thank you very much.”

How do the Valued Star Awards work?

One Valued Star is picked on a monthly basis from all those nominated during that month by our Executive Team. The winner is then announced the following month through a surprise presentation by Chief Executive Dr Peter Miller, who visits them in their place of work and presents a framed certificate.

The timeline for the awards and the dates for the monthly presentations is available.

It is important that if you are nominating someone for a Valued Star award, that you check they are available on the date of the scheduled presentation for that month.

Don't forget to let the person you're nominating know that you've nominated them - it is a great way to say thank you for all they do!

(Please copy and save the above text before you submit it as we are experiencing some technical problems with a number of the nomination submissions). Send a copy of the text by email to the person you are nominating, so that they know you are nominating them.
