What Does Our Service Do?

Ashby Ward is an acute mental health ward for male patients, based in the Bradgate Mental Health unit on the Glenfield Hospital Site, Groby Road, Leicester. Ashby Ward provides 24-hour  assessmemt and care for adult males who are in the acute stage of their illness. The aim of the ward team is to provide recovery-focused care which is individual to the person.

How Does Our Service Work?

On admission you will be allocated a bed either in a  dormitory or room, given information  and orientated to the ward. You be allocated a medical consultant in charge of your care, and a named and associate nurse. You will undertake a full assessment of your needs mentally, physically, and socially and a plan of care will be put into place, including positive risk management, which will be reviewed daily. You are encouraged to maintain contact with friends and family and that they are, if you wish, to be included in your care. From the onset of admission we will be working towards your recovery and subsequent discharge to make the process as short as possible.

Care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team and the ward provides qualified and unqualified nursing cover on all shifts. The ward has input from occupational therapists, and a therapeutic liaison worker who will be on duty to enable activities, groups and therapeutic interventions to take place.

Transfer between wards

Although you might have been admitted to Asbhy ward it might be necessary to move your care to a different ward, to accommodate new admissions. This would happen only after we have looked at all options. You will still receive the same high standard of care and your care plan and information will follow you.

Smoke-free Trust

Our Trust became smoke free in October 2016 and promotes nicotine replacement therapy products that are free from our pharmacy. The ward will allow the use of disposable e-cigarettes that can be purchased from a vending machine within the unit. E-cigarettes may only be used within the ward gardens and not within the wards. We cannot recharge e-cigarettes and will only allow the use of the e-cigarette from the vending machine.
