What Does Our Service Do?

Aston Ward is a mental health ward for for female patients with acute needs, and is part of the Bradgate Mental Health Unit on the Glenfield Hospital site in Leicester. Care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team of staff, including medical, nursing and therapy staff who deliver recovery-focused individualised care. Patients are allocated both a named doctor and a nurse on admission and they are involved in the planning of individualised care.

How Does Our Service Work?

On admission the patient is shown around the ward and introduced to the staff. They are  allocated a named nurse and shown their sleeping area. The ward has written information to support the admission and a full assessment of the patient's needs are made and a plan of care put in place with their involvement. This is reviewed regularly dependant on individual need. From the outset the team will be working with the patient towards recovery and subsequent discharge.

Transfer between wards

Although you might have been admitted to Aston ward it might be necessary to move your care to a different ward, to accommodate new admissions. This would happen only after we have looked at all options. You will still receive the same high standard of care and your care plan and information will follow you.

Smoke-free Trust

The Trust became smoke free in October 2016 and promotes nicotine replacement therapy products that are free from our pharmacy. The ward will allow the use of disposable e-cigarettes that can be purchased from a vending machine within the unit. E-cigarettes may only be used within the ward gardens and not within the wards. We cannot recharge e-cigarettes and will only allow the use of the e-cigarette from the vending machine.
