What Does Our Service Do?

Beaumont Ward is part of the Bradgate Mental Health Unit on the Glenfield Hospital site in Leicester. The 22-bedded ward provides acute inpatient assessment and 24-hour mental health nursing care with accommodation on two corridors with side rooms. We aim to provide a full assessment of patients’ needs and working with the patient try to ensure a return to their optimum level of wellbeing. We encourage patients to maintain contact with family and friends as they play a big role in recovery.

How Does Our Service Work?

Our ward team is made up of medical, nursing and occupational therapy staff. We also have ready access to allied professionals such as physiotherapy and the dietician. We all work together in order to ensure the patient receives the most appropriate care. Following admission to the ward you can expect to be orientated to the environment, shown to your room and given information regarding the ward in the form of a booklet. A full assessment of your mental, physical and social needs will be undertaken and your input into this is vital. A review of your care will take place daily. The occupational therapy service provides activities on the ward and we have various games and crafts for people to help pass the time, provide distraction and stimulation.

Transfer between wards

Although you might have been admitted to one ward it might be necessary to move your care to a different ward, to accommodate new admissions. This would happen only after we have looked at all options. You will still receive the same high standard of care and your care plan and information will follow you.

Smoke-free Trust

The Trust became smoke free in October 2016 and promotes nicotine replacement therapy products that are free from our pharmacy. The ward will allow the use of disposable e-cigarettes that can be purchased from a vending machine within the unit. E-cigarettes may only be used within the ward gardens and not  within the wards. We cannot recharge   e-cigarettes and will only allow the use of the e-cigarette from the vending machine.
