Autism Service for Adult Learning Disabilities

What Does Our Service Do?

The autism service is a service for people aged 18 and over who have learning disabilities and who also have autism.

We support people who are going through changes and need extra support to cope. Changes might be leaving school to join adult services or college, leaving home to live elsewhere, going to a new short-break service or times when individuals find that going to activities in their local community is difficult because of their anxiety. It also provides support for people who have withdrawn from services to redevelop their contact with the local community and services.

Our service can also help carers and other services to develop a structured, person-centred daily activity timetable to support the person they look after.Carers are also supported to implement communications system based on an assessment of the individual by speech and language therapists.

We provide specialist advice and support for carers and other services that are supporting individuals with autism regarding the development of structured activities, visual timetables and communication systems. We support carres to implement recommendations made as a rsult of our own direct assessments of individuals.
