Occupational Therapy Team

What Does Our Service Do?

The Bradgate unit occupational therapy service is available for everyone admitted to the Bradgate Unit. Occupational therapists work collaboratively with patients and an assessment will determine how a person's mental health impacts on their ability to do what is important to them. Treatment will focus on building confidence and self esteem, maintaining and developing everyday skills, remotivating and harnessing interests, promoting good physical health, developing new way of coping with life’s experiences and promoting quality of life. OTs work together with service users to enable them to reach their optimum level of function and independence to retain and maintain valued life roles and routines in preparation for discharge.

How Do We Work?

The team consists of occupational therapists (OTs) and support staff including therapeutic liaison workers, a gym instructor and technical instructor. Group and one-to-one interventions focus on recovery and take place on the wards, in off-ward environments and in the community. Occupational therapists aim to screen and assess every service user within seven days of admission and discuss with them what interventions might be of help in developing and supporting their health and wellbeing.

Patients assessed as benefiting from occupational therapy will develop a collaborative car plan that will be reviewed regularly.

How Can You Access Our Service?

Ward-based groups are available to all patients admitted to the Bradgate Unit and everyone will be screened by an occupational therapist within seven days of admission. People assessed as needing occupational therapy input will be involved in developing a collaborative care plan. Patients will be discharged from our service at the point they are well enough to return to the community.
