CAMHS Inpatient Service

Our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) successfully secured £8m funding through Better Care Together to build a new 15-bed inpatient facility on the Glenfield Hospital site in Leicester. Construction work is now starting on the site, with a view to opening in August 2020.

We will be providing regular updates and information on this page as the build progresses.

To mark the official start of construction work, our Trust chair, Cathy Ellis, was joined on 13 June by clinical staff, service users and representatives from Interserve Construction Ltd to 'cut the first sod'. Read the media release.

What Does Our Inpatient Service Do?

Our current CAMHS inpatient service is based at Ward 3, Coalville Community Hospital.

The unit admits up to 10 young people between the ages of 13 - 18 who have mental health issues. We provide assessment, treatment and diagnosis of a range of conditions including, psychosis, depression, anxiety related disorders, behavioural disturbances, eating disorders and learning disability associated with mental health.

The team at Ward 3 consists of trained psychiatric nurses, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, a family therapist, teachers and psychologists. The treatment package includes both individual and group work. Both the young person and their family are integral to the service provided and will be involved in all aspects of care.

How Does Our Service Work?

The service user can expect a comprehensive assessment of their physical and mental health needs. They will be seen daily by the nursing staff and will be involved in developing their care plan. They will participate in groups to help them develop their social and interactive skills and to enable them to be more independent. The medical staff will see them individually at least once a week and will provide assessment and other psychological work to help them. The therapists will work with them individually and in groups. The inpatient unit is on one site with access to the three community teams within the service.
