Support from your health visiting team

with you every step of the way

A health visiting team is a mixture of health visitors, community nursery nurses and family support workers. They work with GP and primary health care teams, in neighbourhoods and with children’s centres and other neighbourhood service across Leicester City and Leicestershire County and Rutland.

Health Visitors have a caseload of families with children under school age. Health Visitors specialise in preventative health and health promotion. The team provide universal services to all children and families, which helps them to understand and identify individual health needs.

Targeted health programmes are then agreed and provided to those in need of support either by health visiting staff or other specialist providers within local communities.

We also work with the Local Authority to safeguard children and young people.

How Does Our Service Work?

Families are visited at home antenatally and when babies are between 10 and 14 days old. This is called the new birth visit and health visitors offer a package of support that is tailored to the family’s needs. They offer extra support to mothers with postnatal depression, vulnerable families and children with additional needs. Health visiting teams provide different services depending on the needs of the local area, which may include.

• Baby advice clinics
• Bumps to Babies – antenatal and postnatal programme
• Breast feeding support groups
• Behaviour Management
• Advice on Nutrition/Weaning Advice
• Support to vulnerable families
• Advice on Immunisation and vaccination
• Advice on minor ailments, oral health, smoking cessation etc

The service is delivered from:

• Clients homes
