Learning Disabilities Service for Families, Young People and Children
What Does Our Service Do?
The Learning Disabilities Team provide assessment and treatment for children up to 18 years who have a moderate to profound learning disability presenting with mental health problems, behavioural and sleep difficulties. Also assessment and diagnosis (where appropriate) regarding mental conditions including ADHD and autism. We provide input through our outpatient service which can be supplemented to if necessary using our outreach team. We also respond to crisis situations requiring intense intervention within the home and / or inpatient admission.
Through Aiming High monies we also provide training and assessment and input into city based short break activities for children struggling to access these services due to their behaviours / underlying conditions.
How Does Our Service Work?
We provide an initial assessment or triage regarding the difficulties experienced and presented and would offer an appropriate care packages / treatments developed by our outpatient clinicians. This may involve input via our outreach service if necessary and referral to other services as required. Assessments are undertaken in a variety of ways depending upon what is being assessed. These can be undertaken in any setting including as a day patient at Rothesay. If inpatient care was required this would be at the Oakham House but our staff would be with you also.
We currently have 25 staff in post a mixture of full time and part time across all 3 areas of the team. On average at any one time we would have approximately 200 cases open to the service as a whole.
The service is delivered from:
- Rothesay
- Satellite clinics in county settings
