The Mett Centre

The Mett Centre is a mental health day resource centre in Leicester city centre, offering recovery-focused support, through individualised programmes of meaningful activities, physical and mental health promotion, social inclusion and therapeutic interventions. Our service is available to adults with complex and enduring mental health needs who have a consultant psychiatrist at Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust. The service might be particularly suitable for individuals who are isolated socially and might currently find it difficult accessing mainstream services.

Referral only service

The service is referral only by health or social care staff and prospective clients are invited for an informal look around before deciding if they would like the referral to proceed.  Support is provided for approximately 12 months, with clients generally choosing two to three sessions to attend each week.

Most of our work is within small group settings and we aspire to provide a programme and environment which acknowledges the key components associated with personal recovery in mental health; connectedness, hope, identity, meaning and empowerment (*Leamy et al, 2011).

Sessions offered include creative activities, cooking, relaxation, health promotion and community access. As well as providing some structured routine and meaningful occupation all groups offer opportunities to develop in areas such as self-confidence, self-esteem and social skills through interaction. We also have a weekly drop-in when our clients can call in for some unstructured informal social contact.

Access and facilities

The Mett Centre has easy access via public transport. The building is fully accessible and includes a large open-plan drop-in area, coffee bar, therapeutic kitchen, computer area, group discussion room, sensory room and creative arts area. Our team is made up of nurses, occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants and admin staff who work with clients to formulate personally relevant recovery well-being plans, including signposting towards other activities and services which might be of value.
