MSK Therapy:  My first appointment

Your first appointment will last for approximately 30 minutes and any further appointments will usually last for about 20 minutes.

Your physiotherapist will discuss your individual needs and the best treatment plan for you; working with you to set goals that you will work towards together.

You may be asked to attend for up to four appointments to complete your course of treatment.  This may be individually, in a group, or a mixture of the two, depending on what you need to improve.

See below or check out our Frequently Asked Questions page for more information.

What should I bring with me?

Please bring the following to your appointments:
  • Suitable clothing (shorts and a sleeveless top / vest so that the physiotherapist can examine the affected area)
  • Reading glasses
  • List of your current medication
  • Completed questionnaires if you have been sent these in the post
  • If you are attending an exercise class, please bring trainers or appropriate footwear (no open-toed sandals) and wear comfortable fitting clothing.
You are welcome to bring a relative, friend or carer to accompany you during your appointment. It is helpful if you have a think about any specific goals or expectations you have of physiotherapy, and these can be discussed during your assessment.

The Physiotherapy Department

We have a wide range of leaflets available in our departments covering information about different conditions and also about local health and social services.

Please click here for our resource page with information in online format.

The Physiotherapy Department can often become very busy so it is not an ideal environment for young children. Although we understand that sometimes you may need to bring a young child with you, it would really help if you could bring a friend or relative to look after them during your appointment.  This will enable you to get the most out of the time with your physiotherapist.

If you would prefer to be seen in a private room for your physiotherapy appointment please let your physiotherapist know.

If you need an interpreter to be present during your appointment please contact the Booking Office.
Please contact us as early as possible (preferrably at least a week before your appointment) to give us time to arrange for an interpreter to be available.

Your experience of our service

We really want to know whether your experience of physiotherapy is a positive one or whether there is anything that we could improve on.

We welcome feedback and comments on our service and encourage you to complete a Friends and Family Feedback Card or use our interactive iPads during your visit.  Please ask your physiotherapist if these are not readily available.

This is what previous patients thought of our service...
